REMINDER: 2019 2J3KL COD FALL-ONLY FISHERY OPTION

Harvesters are reminded that the deadline to select the Fall-only Fishery Option is Sunday July 28th, 2019.

Harvesters choosing this option must indicate their intention in writing via e-mail to chelsie.tricco@dfo-mpo.gc.ca  and provide their FULL NAME, FIN and HOMEPORT in the email.

Harvesters that choose the Fall-only fishery option will have their weekly limit (including any additional shares) doubled from September 29th – November 16th. Harvesters that choose this option will NOT be able to fish between August 11th and September 28th.

Harvesters that DO NOT indicate their interest in this option by the deadline will receive conditions identifying the base weekly limits, and be permitted to fish the entire season.

Dr. Erin Carruthers

Dr. Erin Carruthers is the Science Director and Senior Fisheries Scientist with the Fish, Food and Allied Workers Union (FFAW-Unifor), which is the labour union that represents the owner-operator fleet in Newfoundland and Labrador. The FFAW is committed to research and management that supports healthy oceans, fisheries, and coastal communities. Dr. Carruthers received her Ph. D. in Biology from Memorial University in 2011 followed by a postdoctoral fellowship with the Centre for Fisheries Ecosystems Research. Before coming to Newfoundland, Erin worked as a Research Biologist with Fisheries and Oceans Canada at the St. Andrews Biological Station. Her current research program is co-constructed with fish harvesters and includes research on coastal fishing communities, collaborative longline and trap surveys, and best practices for the avoidance, handling and release of unwanted catch.
