GULF GROUND FISH COMMITTEE NOMINATION PERIOD

January 7, 2026

Nomination Period for the Gulf Ground Fish Committee will run from Wednesday, January 7th – Wednesday, January 14th, 2026.

During this nomination period, harvesters can call the Corner Brook Office (709) 634-0277. Regular office hours are (8:30am-4:00pm).

There will be no nominations accepted after 3:00pm on Wednesday, January 14th, 2026.

Once the nomination is completed, we will be sending out an electronic vote by email.

This committee will consist of (1) representative from each of the following areas;

Bay St. George

Port au Port

Bay of Islands

Trout River-Cow Head

Parsons Pond-Port Saunders

Port Aux Choix- Plum Point

Anchor Point-St. Anthony

Southern Coast of Labrador (4R)

Dr. Erin Carruthers

Dr. Erin Carruthers is the Science Director and Senior Fisheries Scientist with the Fish, Food and Allied Workers Union (FFAW-Unifor), which is the labour union that represents the owner-operator fleet in Newfoundland and Labrador. The FFAW is committed to research and management that supports healthy oceans, fisheries, and coastal communities. Dr. Carruthers received her Ph. D. in Biology from Memorial University in 2011 followed by a postdoctoral fellowship with the Centre for Fisheries Ecosystems Research. Before coming to Newfoundland, Erin worked as a Research Biologist with Fisheries and Oceans Canada at the St. Andrews Biological Station. Her current research program is co-constructed with fish harvesters and includes research on coastal fishing communities, collaborative longline and trap surveys, and best practices for the avoidance, handling and release of unwanted catch.
