FISHERIES GUIDE VESSEL OPPORTUNITIES

February 14, 2025

The West White Rose Project will require Fisheries Guide Vessels to accompany the inshore tow of the Concrete Gravity-Based Structure (oil platform) in Placentia Bay, the offshore tow of the oil platform from Placentia Bay to the White Rose Field in 3L, and the topside installation preparation from Bull Arm to the White Rose Field.

The inshore tow is expected mid-May and take approximately 24 hours to complete. The CGS will be towed from Argentia to the ballast site at the top of Placentia Bay near Woody and Bar Haven Islands. 3Ps fish harvesters interested in this Guide Vessel work should reach out to Industry Relations Representative Katie Power with a completed attached form by March 3rd to add their name to the list.

The offshore tow is expected mid-June and take 8-10 days to complete. The CGS will be towed from the ballast site to the White Rose Field in 3L. Fish harvesters interested in this Guide Vessel work should reach out to Katie with a completed form by March 3rd to add their name to the list.

The topside is expected to leave Bull Arm mid-July. The Pioneering Spirit carrying the topsides will be transiting at 8 knots and will install the topsides in the White Rose Field in 3L. Fish harvesters interested in this Guide Vessel work should reach out to Katie with a completed form by March 3rd to add their name to the list.

Guide Vessels are paid a flat rate per day. Guide Vessels will be assisted by Fisheries Liaison Officers (FLOs) stationed onboard the tow vessels to improve visibility and communication capabilities.

Given the significance of this work FFAW intends to select guide vessels and potential back-up guide vessels to remain standby to ensure scheduling is not disrupted. Guide Vessels are compensated for time spent in stand-by. Folks who have previously applied to be on the Guide Vessel List will be carried forward from previous years and included in this selection process.

Harvesters interested in more details on this work or with completed forms can reach out to Katie at kpower@ffaw.ca or 709-576-7276.
