Inshore Council Election Results

Ballot still  from the Inshore Council election were counted today, April 8, by FFAW-Unifor’s Elections Committee. Results of the election are listed below, however please note that as a result of the interruption to Labrador’s ferry service, ballots for the Henley Harbour to Cartwright position will be counted on Friday, April 12.

St. Brides to Swift Current – Brian Careen

Highlands to Coxs Cove – Darren Boland

Cape St. John to North Head – Robert Robinson

Gander Bay to Cape Freels, Including Fogo and Change Islands – Aubrey Brinson

Newton to Elliston – Dennis Chaulk

Harbour Grace to Portugal Cove North (Cape St Francis) – Matthew Petten

Congratulations to all new Inshore Council members, and a sincere thank you to all outgoing members for their dedication and contributions over the last three years.

Dr. Erin Carruthers

Dr. Erin Carruthers is the Science Director and Senior Fisheries Scientist with the Fish, Food and Allied Workers Union (FFAW-Unifor), which is the labour union that represents the owner-operator fleet in Newfoundland and Labrador. The FFAW is committed to research and management that supports healthy oceans, fisheries, and coastal communities. Dr. Carruthers received her Ph. D. in Biology from Memorial University in 2011 followed by a postdoctoral fellowship with the Centre for Fisheries Ecosystems Research. Before coming to Newfoundland, Erin worked as a Research Biologist with Fisheries and Oceans Canada at the St. Andrews Biological Station. Her current research program is co-constructed with fish harvesters and includes research on coastal fishing communities, collaborative longline and trap surveys, and best practices for the avoidance, handling and release of unwanted catch.
