Renewal and Refund for Mackerel Licenses

January 24, 2023

Q: I am a commercial licence holder in Atlantic Canada and the mackerel fishery is currently closed for conservation reasons, will I be able to get my licence back when the fisheries reopen?

A: Given the closure in place for the fishery, fish harvesters holding licences are not required to renew their licences as provided by the current commercial fisheries licensing policy for eastern Canada, as long as the fishery remains closed.
Future access to the fishery will be dependent on the duration of the closure and the health of the stock when the closure is lifted. For licence holders, DFO will continue to track their eligibility in regional licensing systems.

All refunds have now been processed and so if you have not received yours please contact DFO.
