OPEN CALL FOR HARVESTERS AFFFECTED BY INSHORE TOW AND BALLAST PROGRAM IN PLACENTIA BAY
Starting in May 2025, Cenovus Energy will be towing its concrete gravity structure (CGS) out of the Argentia graving dock, up to the head of Placentia Bay. The tow up the bay is expected to take approximately 24 hours in duration. The CGS will remain at the anchorage site at the head of Placentia Bay for approximately 4-6 weeks as the structure is prepared for its transit to the White Rose field. Once completed, there will be an additional tow out of Placentia Bay, expected to take approximately 48 hours. The structure is expected to depart Placentia Bay by mid-June.
The structure will be towed along a route from the mouth of Argentia Harbour to the deepwater inshore anchorage site which is located East of the North end of Barhaven Island and due East of Little Woody Island. While transiting within Placentia Bay, the CGS will be towed primarily within the established shipping lanes. If you are a harvester who may be affected by the structure’s tow route or in-shore location at the anchorage site, you may be entitled to compensation.
Potentially affected parties must self-identify by APRIL 25, 2025, to be considered for inclusion in the compensation plan. Please note that compensation is not guaranteed by self-identification. FFAW-Unifor, in collaboration with the regional Fisheries Liaison Committee and under legal advisement, is undertaking coordination of this compensation plan to ensure potentially affected harvesters are compensated for temporary loss of access.
Members of the Fisheries Liaison Committee have been tasked to negotiate a fair agreement on behalf of all affected harvesters in the Region. FFAW members of the Committee are:
