HERRING FIXED GEAR FISHERY CLOSING IN AREA 12 AND PORTIONS OF AREA 13
DFO reminds harvesters that the Herring fixed gear fishery (trap, gillnet, bar seine – including modified bar seine known as “tuck seine”) in all of Herring Fishing Area 12, and portions of Herring Fishing Area 13 will close at 0600 hours June 15, 2024 and will re-open on August 1, 2024 at 0001 hours.
The areas that are closed are all of Fishing Area 12 (NAFO sub-Division 3Pn) and the following portions of Herring Fishing Area 13:
– That portion near Serpentine River, inside a straight line from Rope Cove, north to Coal River Head and the area within one nautical mile seaward of that line.
– That portion near Fox Island River, inside a straight line from Road Point, north to position 48 degree 43.392 minutes North, 58 degrees 39.634 minutes West and the area within one nautical mile seaward of that line.
– That portion from a line drawn due west of Cape Ray, north to a line drawn due west of Cape St. George.
The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Order 2024-073 has been revoked and Variation Order 2024-079 comes into effect on June 12, 2024.
