Northeast Coast Leadership Meet to Develop Plan for Squid

Leadership from across northeast coast met in Gander today to discuss the situation in the squid fishery. Presently there are very few buyers purchasing squid, however there is a unique opportunity with this year’s fishery to take advantage of new markets. As harvesters know, this year has shown the best signs of squid seen in 20 years. In past years, our province has not had sufficient squid to supply the province’s bait market, whereas this year with the abundance of squid there is an opportunity to supply the food market. Harvesters at the meeting came up with a plan that will be put in place as soon as possible. We will provide updates on progress when available.
Participants at the meeting were:
Albert Wells
Nancy Bowers
Brian Deering
Shelly White
Jamie Aylward
Dennis Chaulk
Darren Marsh
FFAW staff in attendance:
Bill Broderick
David Decker
Monty Way
Roland Hedderson
