OLD PERLICAN AREA PROPOSED GILLNET EXCLUSION ZONE DISCUSSION

Start Time: April 23, 2024 6:00 pm

All harvesters in Old Perlican and surrounding areas are invited to attend an information and discussion session on a proposed exclusion zone for gillnets in a small area of Trinity Bay, near Old Perlican. The meeting will take place on Tuesday April 23, 2024 at 6pm at the Community Center in Old Perlican.

After multiple years of complaints of crab being hauled up in gillnets, and recommendations from the inshore crab fleet, with support from the other inshore crab fleets in 3L, a pilot project for a gillnet exclusion zone has been proposed. This meeting is to introduce the proposal to the harvesters in the area, with opportunities for feedback and recommendations prior to anything being finalized.

Any questions/comments/concerns may be directed to Member Representative Miranda Butler at mbutler@ffaw.ca
