3K FLEET MEETINGS NOTICE FOR LOBSTER AND PELAGIC HARVESTERS

FFAW will be holding Fleet Meetings for members in the following communities;

  • South Brook –  at the Town Hall on Tuesday, October 28th starting at 2:00pm.
  • Roddickton –  at the Fire Hall on Wednesday, October 29th  starting at 2:00pm
  • St. Anthony –  at the Lions Club on Wednesday, October 29th starting at 7:00pm.
  • Musgrave Harbour –at the Fire Hall on Monday,  November 3rd  starting at  7:00pm.
  • Fogo Island -at the Visitors Centre on Tuesday,  November 4th starting at 7:00pm.
  • Summerford –at the Town Hall on  Wednesday, November 5th starting at 4:30pm.
  • Leading Tickles –at the Town Hall on Thursday, November 6th starting at 1:00pm.
  • Baie Verte (White Bay Fleet)– at the Baie Vista Inn on Monday, November 10th starting at 9:30am. 
  • Baie Verte (Green Bay Fleet)– at the Baie Vista Inn on Monday, November 10th starting at 1:30pm.

Dr. Erin Carruthers

Dr. Erin Carruthers is the Science Director and Senior Fisheries Scientist with the Fish, Food and Allied Workers Union (FFAW-Unifor), which is the labour union that represents the owner-operator fleet in Newfoundland and Labrador. The FFAW is committed to research and management that supports healthy oceans, fisheries, and coastal communities. Dr. Carruthers received her Ph. D. in Biology from Memorial University in 2011 followed by a postdoctoral fellowship with the Centre for Fisheries Ecosystems Research. Before coming to Newfoundland, Erin worked as a Research Biologist with Fisheries and Oceans Canada at the St. Andrews Biological Station. Her current research program is co-constructed with fish harvesters and includes research on coastal fishing communities, collaborative longline and trap surveys, and best practices for the avoidance, handling and release of unwanted catch.
