NORTH ATLANTIC WIND HYDROGEN COMMUNITY INFO SESSIONS

North Atlantic is proposing to develop a renewable, onshore, land-based wind energy project in the Placentia Bay and Trinity Bay regions. The Project will include the installation of an onshore wind farm to power the production of green hydrogen for export to global markets.

See previous post from December 16, 2024, for project details and map: https://ffaw.ca/member-meetings/north-atlantic-onshore-wind-hydrogen-project-information/

North Atlantic is hosting Community Information Sessions in Southern Harbour, Come by Chance, Arnold’s Cove, and Sunny Side. FFAW members with interest in this project are invited to attend. During these sessions, subject matter experts will be available to answer questions. There will be project information to take away for friends or family not able to attend.

January 28

  • Souther Harbour Community Center, Southern Harbour, 1:00-4:00pm
  • Come By Chance Lions Club, Come By Chance, 6:00-9:00pm

January 29

  • Arnold’s Cove Community Center, Arnold’s Cove, 1:00pm-4:00pm
  • Sunnyside Wellness Center, Sunnyside, 6:00-9:00pm

Fisheries related impacts from land-based wind projects are generally considered minimal given scopes are land-based. However, FFAW continues to amplify concerns surrounding impacts to adjacent fisheries, risks of ammonia spills and refuse runoff into bays, increased vessel traffic, decommissioning plans, and the need to effectively inform and engage harvesters in affected communities. Land-based, provincial wind energy projects do not include expansion into the offshore marine environment.
