2024 CAPP OFFSHORE ENIRONMENTAL FORUM – NOV 27, 2024

The Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers (CAPP) is inviting FFAW members to its annual Offshore Environmental Forum. The forum is a one day event, either in-person or online, that brings together a variety of stakeholders to share information about initiatives, programs, research, policies, and regulatory changes related to environmental protection and mitigation in the offshore oil and gas industry. This year’s forum agenda includes updates from the fishing industry, a session on ocean noise, regulatory updates and a session on new and emerging research.

Date: November 27, 2024

Time: 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (TBC – a final agenda will be forwarded to all registered attendees in advance of the event)

Location: In-person at Emera Innovation Exchange (100 Signal Hill Road, St. John’s, NL) or virtually.

2024 Offshore Environmental Forum Agenda

Dr. Erin Carruthers

Dr. Erin Carruthers is the Science Director and Senior Fisheries Scientist with the Fish, Food and Allied Workers Union (FFAW-Unifor), which is the labour union that represents the owner-operator fleet in Newfoundland and Labrador. The FFAW is committed to research and management that supports healthy oceans, fisheries, and coastal communities. Dr. Carruthers received her Ph. D. in Biology from Memorial University in 2011 followed by a postdoctoral fellowship with the Centre for Fisheries Ecosystems Research. Before coming to Newfoundland, Erin worked as a Research Biologist with Fisheries and Oceans Canada at the St. Andrews Biological Station. Her current research program is co-constructed with fish harvesters and includes research on coastal fishing communities, collaborative longline and trap surveys, and best practices for the avoidance, handling and release of unwanted catch.
