Invest in Sustainable Fisheries - Not Seismic

January 9, 2022

January 10, 2022 – FFAW-Unifor has consistently expressed concern about the impact of seismic blasting on the marine environment.

The vast majority of the ocean off our province has already been surveyed with seismic multiple times and there have not been enough answers regarding the impact this has had. Less seismic will certainly positive for our environment.

Our provincial government has not focused the same investment on the further advancement of sustainable fisheries.

The wild fishery is a growth industry, continuing to build on 2021, which was the most valuable year in the history of our province. We must seriously consider the impacts on this valuable marine environment before going ahead with industrial activities such as seismic exploration.
