Concerns Surrounding 3Ps Cod

July 24, 2020

As many of you know, cod harvesters in 3Ps have experienced an extreme cut to their quota for this year, well beyond what harvesters suggested to DFO.  Furthermore, FFAW insisted that the small quota of fish should be allocated to inshore harvesters only.

We understand that many harvesters are concerned following the DFO announcement stating the less than 35′ fixed-gear fleet – Area 10 had landed a significant amount of their quota and they were monitoring landings.  We have asked for further analysis from DFO and we will be doing everything we can to give all harvesters an opportunity to fish.  This is especially important in a year where people have already endured so much due to a global pandemic.  We will be working with the department, consulting with members and we will provide updates when available.
