3L Trinity Bay Crab(6A)/Cod Fleet Meeting - Hearts Content and Clarenville

Two meetings are scheduled for the 6A Crab Fleet and Cod.

The first meeting will take place on February 2, 2026, beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the Heart’s Content Recreation Centre. From 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., the meeting will focus on cod, including the election of members to a cod committee. The meeting will then continue from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. as a 6A Crab Fleet meeting.

The second meeting will take place on February 3, 2026, beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the Clarenville Inn. From 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., the meeting will focus on cod, including the election of members to a cod committee. The meeting will then continue from 12:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. as a 6A Crab Fleet meeting.

Member Representative Shannon Chidley, and Inshore Director Sherry Glynn will be in attendance.

Dr. Erin Carruthers

Dr. Erin Carruthers is the Science Director and Senior Fisheries Scientist with the Fish, Food and Allied Workers Union (FFAW-Unifor), which is the labour union that represents the owner-operator fleet in Newfoundland and Labrador. The FFAW is committed to research and management that supports healthy oceans, fisheries, and coastal communities. Dr. Carruthers received her Ph. D. in Biology from Memorial University in 2011 followed by a postdoctoral fellowship with the Centre for Fisheries Ecosystems Research. Before coming to Newfoundland, Erin worked as a Research Biologist with Fisheries and Oceans Canada at the St. Andrews Biological Station. Her current research program is co-constructed with fish harvesters and includes research on coastal fishing communities, collaborative longline and trap surveys, and best practices for the avoidance, handling and release of unwanted catch.
