UNION STILL FIGHTING FOR SOLUTION TO SNOW CRAB IMPASSE

May 18, 2023

Despite talks breaking off yesterday, the FFAW-Unifor Bargaining Committee continued to meet virtually today in an attempt to find a solution to the current snow crab crisis. The Committee’s priority remains finding a fair resolution that will get everyone back to work as soon as possible. An exchange between the two parties was made today, and work will continue tomorrow.

FFAW-Unifor remains committed to ensuring that, in the longer-term, the Provincial Government stays true to their word in implementing a pricing formula prior to the 2024 season, as well as to make much needed changes to processing licenses to increase competition and provide more avenues for harvesters to sell their catch.

Moreover, our Federal and Provincial Governments must publicly pledge their commitment that all fishery workers impacted by a drastic reduction in earnings this year will be protected and supported.

Of note, Urner Barry prices remained flat for both NL (frozen) and Gulf (fresh) snow crab on Tuesday and Thursday this week.
