Panel Sides with FFAW on Snow Crab Price Reconsideration

The Standing Fish Price Setting Panel announced their decision on the reconsideration for snow crab, siding with the FFAW Snow Crab Negotiating Committee’s price of $5.07.
The price is a $0.17 increase from the Panel’s last decision of $4.90.
“We are very pleased that the Panel selected our price following the reconsideration hearing held today,” says Keith Sullivan, President of FFAW-Unifor. “Every harvester deserves to fish for a fair minimum price, it doesn’t matter if it’s at the beginning or end of the season, it’s essential that harvesters continue to fight to preserve fairness in the pricing system.”
Over 30%, or 12 million pounds, of crab is still in the water. This price reconsideration ensures that those harvesters get a fair price for their catch.
“A bad price today becomes a starting point for price negotiations the following year. As a Union, we cannot be complacent when faced with unfair prices and we have to use every tool we have available to increase minimum prices,” says Sullivan.
