Reopening of the inshore Northern cod fishery for 3KL-based harvesters and 2J-based season extension
DFO advises that the 2J3KL Northern cod fishery will re-open for 3KL-based inshore harvesters to fish in NAFO Divisions 3KL on Friday, October 11, 2024 at 0600 hours for vessel classes A295, A296 and A283.
There is approximately 180 t remaining for 3KL-based harvesters. The fishery will be closely monitored to ensure the total harvest remains within the 3KL-based inshore fleet allocation, and a closure may occur with limited notice.
DFO remains committed to safety at sea and harvesters are reminded to closely monitor marine forecasts. If a harvester is unable to retrieve their gear by the close time due to safety concerns, they are advised to contact their local C&P detachment.
Harvesters are reminded that you are not authorized to set gear prior to the fishery opening.
DFO also advises that the season for the 2J-based inshore fleet, vessel class A292, will be extended to Saturday, October 26 at 1800 hours, and new conditions will be available soon.
The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Orders 2024-273 and 2024-274 have been revoked and Variation Orders 2024-276 and 2024-277 come into effect on October 10, 2024.
