Representatives from MSC have provided the following salvage update as of Friday, November 14th:
• There is additional buckling on the port and starboard sides
• Below deck damage has been observed in framing and bulkheads near a water ballast tank
• Stern section has settled deeper by approximately 1 meter
• Cranes, main switchboard, and large generators were affected by the storms and are currently offline
• Salvage equipment is being brought ashore for inspection and recertification
Over 95% of hydrocarbons have been removed since July and no active leakage has been observed from structural fuel tanks. Shoreline assessments and cleanup continue with very small number of tar balls recovered. A hull survey has been completed but the results are still pending. The details will be shared when available.
This remains an evolving situation, and MSC is coordinating closely with the Canadian Coast Guard. Members with questions or concerns can reach out to Katie Power, Industry Relations Representative at kpower@ffaw.ca/709-576-7276. She can provide direct contacts for MSC should members wish to speak to them directly.
