MARINE INSTITUTE LOBSTER GEAR DEMONSTRATION – STEPHENVILLE, CODROY AND PORT AUX BASQUES

Calling all lobster harvesters. There will be demonstrations of the RESQUNIT backup buoy from January 30 – Febuary 1 in 4R. Members who attend the meetings are eligible to receive a free RESQUNIT buoy. Gear demonstrations will occur on January 30th in Stephenville, January 31st in Codroy and February 1st in Port Aux Basques. MEETING FOR FISH HARVESTERS ON WEST COAST IN STEPHENVILLE ON MONDAY, DECEMBER 11

Following delays at the provincial level and repeated requests from the FFAW, World Energy GH2 has agreed to hold a consultation meeting with fish harvesters who are affected by proposed onshore wind farms in Port au Port and Codroy Valley and ammonia plant in Stephenville.

FFAW members are invited to attend this in person meeting on Monday, December 11, 2023 at 4pm at the World Energy Community Office at 13 Tennessee Drive, Stephenville.

Questions and concerns regarding the potential for offshore dredging and refuse spilling on fishing grounds should be raised by harvesters and addressed by World Energy representatives at this time. For additional information please contact kpower@ffaw.ca.

The Impacy Assessment Agency of Canada’s Regional Assessment Committee is hosting FFAW at TWO virtual engagement sessions for their Regional Assessment for Offshore Wind Development.

The Fisheries Advisory Group meeting is Monday September 18th from 11:30am-1:00pm and the Scientific and Community Knowledge Advisory Group meeting is Tuesday September 19th from 1:30pm-3:00pm. These meetings will be focused on collecting expert advice on fisheries and related information that might be useful in ruling areas in or out for potential future offshore wind developments.
