Capelin Prices 2018
Below are the price categories for capelin. Please note, that the price table listed at the bottom applies to all capelin that does not meet the “A” or “B” price. Last year, almost all capelin was priced according to this table. If capelin landed does not meet the “A”, “B” or table price then the price will be negotiated between the harvester and processor.
Price “A” – 24 cents per pound
Specs for “A” Price
- 55 count per kilo and under
- Maximum 10% feed content
- Minimum 40% usable females, which are classified as 5.25 inches or higher.
- All female capelin less than 5.25 inches will be classed as males only for the purpose of determining the percentage of usable females for price “A” purposes
Price “B” – 14 cents per pound
Specs for “B” Price
- 55 count per kilo and under
- Maximum 10% feed content
- Minimum 40% females, regardless of size. All female capelin, including broken, damaged, over-matured, or less than 5.25 inches are counted to assess whether the 40% threshold for Price “B” is met.
Capelin Table
Feed restrictions for the table are set pursuant to the capelin sampling protocol, which call for a minimum of 15% feed.
