AGREEMENT REACHED FOR PHASE 2 COMPENSATION IN PLACENTIA BAY

May 2, 2025

An Agreement in Principle has been reached between Cenovus and the Fisheries Liaison Committee (FLC) for the upcoming CGS operations in Placentia Bay (Phase II). The Committee included representation from harvesters from the areas around the activities.

Specific details of the Agreement are protected by a confidentiality agreement and individual claimants will be contacted directly by the FFAW. Individuals not contacted can still avail themselves of compensation by way of Demonstrated Losses at the end of the fishing season. More on this protocol is expected soon. Harvesters should be diligent with logbooks and relevant record keeping, and maintain receipts for the next 3-5 years to potentially substantiate compensation claims for lost income due to the Cenovus West White Rose Project.

Starting as early as the first week of May, Cenovus will be removing the CGS from the Argentia Graving Dock and towing it to the in-shore site at the Head of Placentia Bay (Big Shoal South, Southeast of Woody Island, Northeast of Bar Haven), where it will remain for approximately four to six weeks.

A communications protocol has been established between Cenovus, FFAW and the harvester members of the FLCs for project activities. Weekly emails will be shared from Cenovus for the information of harvesters about upcoming activities, with more frequent updates as required, in addition to regular notice to mariners. Harvesters in 3Ps are reminded to diligently check their emails for updates.
