July 3, 2024

FFAW-Unifor’s petition (e-5057) to the House of Commons for the return of the Northern Cod Stewardship Fishery is now published for signature.

With the House of Commons closed until September, we are asking all Canadians to sign the petition and share it with their networks to pressure for the federal government to reverse it’s decision for a Commercial Fishery that has given a share to Canadian and International draggers and reinstate the Stewardship Fishery.

As the stock continues to rebuild in the cautious zone, it cannot withstand this increased fishing pressure, moreover, the announcement abandons a longstanding commitment made by the Government of Canada to prioritize a 115,000mt allocation to Inshore and Indigenous groups.
