FFAW/unifor will be holding Cod Meetings in the following Communities from December 1-3:

Twillingate
Wednesday, Dec. 1st at 4:00pm at the Twillingate Lion’s Club

Change Islands
Thursday, Dec. 2nd at 9:30am at the Change Island’s Community Centre

Fogo
Thursday, Dec. 2nd at 2:00pm at the Visitor’s Information Centre

Musgrave Harbour
Friday, Dec. 3rd at 1:00pm at the Musgrave Harbour Youth Centre

Staff Representative Dwan Street and Secretary Treasure Robert Keenan will be in attendance.

In accordance with Gov NL and public health measures – all in attendance must be fully vaccinated or have an approved medical exemption in order to enter the meeting space, and FFAW staff will be verifying proof of vaccination for all guests. Masks are mandatory.

Dr. Erin Carruthers

Dr. Erin Carruthers is the Science Director and Senior Fisheries Scientist with the Fish, Food and Allied Workers Union (FFAW-Unifor), which is the labour union that represents the owner-operator fleet in Newfoundland and Labrador. The FFAW is committed to research and management that supports healthy oceans, fisheries, and coastal communities. Dr. Carruthers received her Ph. D. in Biology from Memorial University in 2011 followed by a postdoctoral fellowship with the Centre for Fisheries Ecosystems Research. Before coming to Newfoundland, Erin worked as a Research Biologist with Fisheries and Oceans Canada at the St. Andrews Biological Station. Her current research program is co-constructed with fish harvesters and includes research on coastal fishing communities, collaborative longline and trap surveys, and best practices for the avoidance, handling and release of unwanted catch.
