Fifty women from all FFAW-Unifor sectors gathered today in Clarenville for a Regional Women’s Meeting. Today was the first-ever meeting of this kind, resulting from a resolution passed at the 2018 FFAW-Unifor Constitutional Convention to establish regional women’s committees.
Mildred Skinner and Doretta Strickland spoke to participants about election readiness and using your voice for change. Women discussed barriers to getting involved in politics and the key issues they’re voting on in the federal election.
Jenne Nolan of the St. John’s Status of Women Council presented on the results of a recent survey on domestic violence at work and what we can do to reduce violence in our communities.
Karen Caines, Nancy Bowers, and Sheila Howell participated in a panel on “Getting Active in Your Union.” These union leaders shared how they got involved and how other women can make an impact in their local or in their community.
Today’s meeting in Clarenville was a true testament to how women make our union strong. The next regional meeting will take place next week in Deer Lake.
