Lobster Buddy-Up Votes 2025
The following fleets are voting on whether to recommend buddy-up be available in their Lobster Fishing Area (LFA):
LFA 3 (White Bay)
LFA 4A (Green Bay)
LFA 4B (Notre Dame Bay)
LFA 5 (Bonavista Bay)
LFA 6 (Trinity Bay)
LFA 9 (St. Mary’s Bay)
LFA 10 (Placentia Bay)
The following buddy-up rules that apply to all species will be in place for lobster:
- A buddy-up is an arrangement between two license holders.
- Only one buddy-up is allowed per season.
- A buddy-up must be in place before fishing starts.
- There are no designations in a buddy-up.
- A buddy-up can be canceled at any time.
The following apply to lobster and would be in place if buddy-up is approved for your lobster fishing area:
- Both license holders in the buddy-up must be aboard the vessel whenever lobster is being fished. To be clear, in a buddy-up arrangement, both buddies must be on-board during all lobster fishing activity, including setting and hauling pots; and
- The pot limit in buddy-up arrangements is double the pot limit for a license holder who is fishing singly. For example, if your current pot limit is 150, then in a buddy-up arrangement, your pot limit is 300.
Recommendations made by the fleet are subject to DFO approval.
