Update: Capelin Advisory Meeting

This morning over a dozen harvesters from 3KLPs joined DFO for the annual Capelin Advisory.
DFO failed to produce a prediction for the 2022 fishery because of the lack of data and inadequate science in 2021. Harvesters did, however, see promise in the small amount of data that was presented, noting that the age 2 immature abundance seems to be higher than recent years. Harvesters are hopeful that a full survey will be completed in 2022, with DFO already securing the contract for this year’s Spring Acoustic Survey.
Harvesters again noted that they believe DFO should focus more effort on deep water spawning to get a greater perspective on the performance of the stock.
