SUMMER SHRIMP NEGOTIATION UPDATE

June 23, 2021

June 23, 2021 – Today the Standing Fish Price Setting Panel released its decision on the summer shrimp price and it selected the position of ASP. The average price for shrimp for summer 2021 is $1.10, depending on distributions. The FFAW position was an average price of $1.22.

The Panel’s decision ignores real and persuasive evidence that the cold water shrimp market is improving and that the market in September will be much stronger than the market of today. The vast majority of NL shrimp will be landed in June, July, and August and not exported until late summer and fall. Processors will benefit from the improved market later in the year but harvesters will not.

Thank you to the negotiating committee for the work and ideas you put forward last week.
