LFA 4B LOBSTER BALLOT

February 2, 2024

The ballot that is currently out on whether to lift the prohibition on Sunday fishing in LFA 4B is cancelled. The Department did additional research and has notified the 4B lobster committee that the Sunday fishing prohibition was put in as a conservation measure to reduce high exploitation rates in this fishery in the past. Any proposed change, to any conservation measures, would need to be reviewed by the Department. Without fully understanding the implications of a request to lift the prohibition on Sunday fishing including any impact it may have on other management measures in this area , the committee has decided that the best approach is to cancel the ballot and review the matter further in the fall. Ballots that have already been returned by mail will be destroyed once they are received at the office. If you still have your ballot, please dispose of it.
