Mackerel Prices 2009

The Standing Fish Price-Setting Panel has made a decision for mackerel prices for 2009. Following a hearing on August 28, the Panel selected the final offer of ASP, which included the following prices:

Size (Grams)        –     Price Per Pound

200 – 399              –     $0.085

400 – 599              –     $0.145

600                       –     $0.19

The arbitration hearing was held after the Union and the Association of Seafood Producers (ASP) failed to reach agreement on minimum prices for mackerel.

Under the inshore collective bargaining legislation, the Panel was required to decide the matter by final offer selection – in other words, they had to choose either the final offer from the Union or the final offer from ASP.

By law, the Panel’s decision is binding on all companies who buy mackerel in the province. The prices took effect September 2, 2009.
