FFAW-Unifor Notice of Nomination and Election

May 6, 2021 – As per Article VII of the FFAW-Unifor Constitution, written notice is hereby given to all members in good standing of a pending nomination period and election period for the Officers and Executive Board.

The Election Committee was elected by delegates at the 2018 FFAW-Unifor Constitutional Convention. This Committee is given the responsibility of conducting this election and is charged with conducting our elections in a fair and transparent manner. All ballots will be returned to a third-party auditor.

The nomination period shall begin on May 21st, 2021 and close on May 31st, 2021 at the end of business.

The nomination forms and rules of procedure for the election shall be mailed to all members in good standing within the next week. Copies of these forms will also be made available on the FFAW website.

Dr. Erin Carruthers

Dr. Erin Carruthers is the Science Director and Senior Fisheries Scientist with the Fish, Food and Allied Workers Union (FFAW-Unifor), which is the labour union that represents the owner-operator fleet in Newfoundland and Labrador. The FFAW is committed to research and management that supports healthy oceans, fisheries, and coastal communities. Dr. Carruthers received her Ph. D. in Biology from Memorial University in 2011 followed by a postdoctoral fellowship with the Centre for Fisheries Ecosystems Research. Before coming to Newfoundland, Erin worked as a Research Biologist with Fisheries and Oceans Canada at the St. Andrews Biological Station. Her current research program is co-constructed with fish harvesters and includes research on coastal fishing communities, collaborative longline and trap surveys, and best practices for the avoidance, handling and release of unwanted catch.
