FFAW Submits Notice of Intent to Negotiate Turbot and Sea Cucumber

July 2, 2020

FFAW has a filed a notice of intent to negotiate minimum price for turbot and sea cucumber. Pursuant to the Fishing Industry Collective Bargaining Act, processors must start price negotiations within 20 days of the notice to negotiate being filed.

Negotiations on turbot will start on Monday July 6th and negotiations for sea cucumber will start on Monday July 13th. The Association of Seafood Producers (ASP) will represent the processors for both negotiations. If there is no agreement on price, the matter will be heard by the Standing Fish Price Setting Panel. Dates for the Panel hearings have not been set, but the turbot hearing would be the same week as turbot negotiations and likewise for sea cucumber.

Current prices paid for turbot and sea cucumber are now frozen until a price has been set for both species. Processors cannot pay less per pound than what is currently being paid. Processors can pay more with the consent of the harvester. If a processor tries to lower per pound prices between now and when a price is established, please contact your staff rep.
