On October 25th FFAW held a workshop in St John’s attended by over 20 Snow Crab fleet representatives, DFO Science and Resource Management, the provincial Department of Fisheries, Forestry and Agrifoods, and FFAW staff. The purpose of the meeting was to review the Collaborative Post-Season (CPS) Snow Crab survey.

Thanks to all who participated. Together we took the crucial next steps to ensuring the survey provides both an index of fishable biomass and an index of recruits coming into the fishery.

Changes to the 2016 CPS survey were discussed, including an increase in the number of small mesh pots from 134 to 304. These small mesh pots were broadly distributed throughout the area.

A summary of the meeting can be read here.
