FFAW Announces Hiring of New Directors to Inshore and IRO Divisions
FFAW-Unifor is pleased to announce the hiring of two staff management positions within the Union; Inshore Director and Industrial/Retail/Offshore Director.
Sherry Glynn has accepted the position of Inshore Director. Sherry has a Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology and a Masters of Marine Studies in Fisheries Resource Management. After several years away from FFAW, Sherry returned in 2022 to accept the position of 3K Member Representative. Sherry will assume the responsibilities of Inshore Director as of September 30th.
James Farrell has accepted the position of IRO Director. James holds a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Memorial University and a Juris Doctor from the University of Calgary. He is a member of the Canadian Association of Labour Lawyers and was called to the Newfoundland and Labrador Bar in 2016. He has been an IRO Member Representative since 2020 and has represented FFAW membership in numerous arbitrations. This change in James’ role will be effective as of September 30th.
To fill Inshore Member Representative vacancies, the Union is pleased to announce the following staff appointments:
Ian Ivany will be the Member Representative for 3L while Miranda Butler is off on parental leave. Ian is originally from central Newfoundland. He earned his Masters of Science in 2011 and has been a Science Coordinator with FFAW since 2020. Ian is enthusiastic and looking forward to working with the members of 3L, and will start working with Miranda effective September 30th.
Kim Rose will be the Member Representative for 3K. Originally from Marysvale, Kim studied Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) at the University of New Brunswick and has spent the last 10 years involved in the OH&S field focused mainly on offshore vessels, fish processing plants, and oil & gas. Kim’s work has taken her to almost every corner of Newfoundland and Labrador and she looks forward to spending more time in the 3K area. Kim starts on Sept 30th and will spend time with Sherry Glynn getting up to speed on the area.
The 3Ps position will follow in the coming weeks.
“I’ve worked closely with Jason Spingle, Dwan Street, and our HR Manager Glenda Leyte over the last several weeks to conduct this hiring process and ensure that the people we put in our frontline positions will serve our membership well in the months and years to come. I am extremely pleased with the caliber of candidates that came forward during this hiring process and wish our new Directors and Member Representatives best of luck as they get to know their new areas,” says FFAW-Unifor President Greg Pretty.
