2023 PHOTO CONTEST

We are now accepting photos for our annual PHOTO CONTEST. Please submit your on-the-job photos for a chance to win one of three prizes!

What are we looking for? Photos taken of our members in their day-to-day work lives. On the water, in the plant or on the job site. We want to showcase what you do for a living and the things you see along the way!

Three winners will be chosen:

First Prize – $150 Gift Card of Choice* and Photo to be Featured on Cover of Union Forum Magazine Fall 2022

Second Prize – $100 Gift Card of Choice*

Third Prize – $75 Gift Card of Choice*

Requirements to enter:

  • Photos must be high resolution (full-size image)
  • You own the rights or have permission to use the photo
  • By entering, you give permission for submitted photos to be used in future promotional material including on social media
  • No limit to entries – submit as many photos as you want!

All entries must be received by Friday, August 18, 2023 to be entered for draw. Send photos to communications@ffaw.ca with the following information:

  • Photo taken by
  • Location of photo or home port
  • Who or what is in the photo

Dr. Erin Carruthers

Dr. Erin Carruthers is the Science Director and Senior Fisheries Scientist with the Fish, Food and Allied Workers Union (FFAW-Unifor), which is the labour union that represents the owner-operator fleet in Newfoundland and Labrador. The FFAW is committed to research and management that supports healthy oceans, fisheries, and coastal communities. Dr. Carruthers received her Ph. D. in Biology from Memorial University in 2011 followed by a postdoctoral fellowship with the Centre for Fisheries Ecosystems Research. Before coming to Newfoundland, Erin worked as a Research Biologist with Fisheries and Oceans Canada at the St. Andrews Biological Station. Her current research program is co-constructed with fish harvesters and includes research on coastal fishing communities, collaborative longline and trap surveys, and best practices for the avoidance, handling and release of unwanted catch.
