2021 Sentinel Applications - UPDATED!

Applications for the 2021 Sentinel are now available for download and submission. Applications can be accessed for download by clicking on the link in each Sentinel description.

The deadline for Triangle Sentinel applications (Pinsent’s Arm and Charlottetown) is Friday June 4th, 2021, 4:30pm. The deadline for all other Sentinel applications (Herring Neck, Glovers Harbour, and Plate Cove West) is Monday June 7th, 2021, 4:30pm.

Sentinel Site: Herring Neck

FFAW-Unifor will be accepting applications for the Herring Neck sentinel site. Harvesters eligible to apply are those from Herring Neck, Meritt’s Harbour, Cobbs Arm, Pikes Arm, and Too Good Arm.

Herring Neck 2021 Sentinel Application

 

Sentinel Site: Glovers Harbour

FFAW-Unifor will be accepting applications for the Glovers Harbour sentinel site. Harvesters eligible to apply are those from Leading Tickles to Cotrell’s Cove.

Sentinel Site: Plate Cove West

FFAW-Unifor will be accepting applications for the Plate Cove West sentinel site. Harvesters eligible to apply are those from Tickle Cove to Southern Bay.

Triangle 2021 Sentinel Application

Dr. Erin Carruthers

Dr. Erin Carruthers is the Science Director and Senior Fisheries Scientist with the Fish, Food and Allied Workers Union (FFAW-Unifor), which is the labour union that represents the owner-operator fleet in Newfoundland and Labrador. The FFAW is committed to research and management that supports healthy oceans, fisheries, and coastal communities. Dr. Carruthers received her Ph. D. in Biology from Memorial University in 2011 followed by a postdoctoral fellowship with the Centre for Fisheries Ecosystems Research. Before coming to Newfoundland, Erin worked as a Research Biologist with Fisheries and Oceans Canada at the St. Andrews Biological Station. Her current research program is co-constructed with fish harvesters and includes research on coastal fishing communities, collaborative longline and trap surveys, and best practices for the avoidance, handling and release of unwanted catch.
