Panel Sides with FFAW on 2021 Price for Snow Crab

March 31, 2021 – Moments ago, FFAW-Unifor received word from the Standing Fish Price Setting Panel that the Panel sided with the Union’s price of $5.73. ASP proposed a price of $5.25 per pound.

This considerable increase from last year’s original price of $2.90, and the reconsidered price of $3.50, is a significant win for our province’s snow crab harvesters – $5.73 is the fair price that they did not receive last year. Snow crab harvesters in this province faced a challenging year in 2020 as the COVID-19 crisis affected our most important markets. This year’s price negotiations required a commitment to find a solution that fit ongoing circumstances with the pandemic, as the market for snow crab remains very high and demand remains strong.

Congratulations, and Thank You to the negotiating team for your hard work and input over the last few weeks. You performed an outstanding service to your fellow harvesters.
