LOBSTER UPDATE

Following the second lockout by buyers in a week, harvesters are passed frustrated and have made their presence and voices loud and clear with protests at buying locations on the south and west coasts over the past 2 days, holding up the transport of lobster from respective buyers. In addition, the Union has received a commitment from Minster Derrick Bragg to allow outside buyers for live lobster for the 2023 season. “This is past due and as I’ve stated we will facilitate any out-of-province buyer that wants to come here to buy what we know are premium quality hard-shell lobsters,” says FFAW-Unifor Secretary-Treasurer Jason Spingle.

Through the solidarity shown by harvesters today, the Union has received a second counterproposal from ASP with improvements to the first offer. The Committee will convene tomorrow evening and comments will be sent to ASP following the meeting.
