Government Invests $40 Million in NL Small Craft Harbours

Today, Minister Seamus O’Regan announced on behalf of the Minister of Fisheries, Dominic Leblanc, the federal government is investing $40 million into small craft harbours in Newfoundland and Labrador this year.

The funding includes a major harbour development investment at the Fort Amherst Small Boat Basin St. John’s. This particular project was initiated by FFAW Inshore Council member and St. John’s Harbour Authority Committee chair Glen Winslow along with committee vice-chair Glen Critch over two years ago after mounting frustrations over gridlock and safety concerns in the small crafts harbour.

“This announcement was a long time coming for our members. We are very pleased to see the upgrades coming to the Fort Amherst harbour, and look forward to seeing what additional improvements will be coming to other small crafts harbours around our province,” said FFAW-Unifor President Keith Sullivan.
