4R Herring – Change to Management Measure

In consultation with industry representatives, the Department reviewed the small fish tolerance in the 4R Herring fishery. Please be advised that the tolerance of the number of small fish caught and retained will be increased from 20% to 30% of the number of longer fish caught for the greater than 65′ purse seine fleet only.

This change is on a temporary basis in Herring Fishing Areas 13 and 14 and will be discussed and reviewed further at the 2022 4R Herring Advisory.

This measure is effective as of 0600 hours November 19, 2021.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Order 2018-299 has been revoked and Variation Order 2021-287 comes into effect on November 19, 2021.
