Mackerel Prices 2017

With strong support and input from the mackerel negotiating committee, FFAW has reached an agreement with ASP on the minimum price of mackerel for the 2017 season.

Under the 2017 mackerel agreement, the following prices will be paid:

  • 200-399 grams – 23 cents (9.5% increase over 2016)
  • 400-599 grams – 28 cents (8% increase over 2016)
  • 600 grams + – 34 cents (3% increase over 2016)

The weighted average for these 3 prices is 26.35 cents. This represents an 8% increase,  which is approximately 2 cents above the 2016 price. The 2017 price is the highest ever negotiated minimum price for mackerel, according to FFAW records.

Mackerel is priced in three sizes: 200-399 grams, 400-599 grams, and 600 grams and greater. The breakdown of the mackerel fishery is generally as follows:

  • 45% – 200-399 grams
  • 45% – 400-599 grams
  • 10% – 600 grams and more
