Soft-Shell Closed Areas for Crab in NAFO Division 3NO

DFO advises that in accordance with the soft-shell protocol, the following grids in Crab Fishing 3N 200 in NAFO Division 3NO will close to fishing Snow Crab and Northern Shrimp at midnight on Thursday, July 17, 2025 due to a high incidence of soft-shell crab:

Grid V 37

Grid V 38

Grid W 37

This grid will be closed to Snow crab fishing for the remainder of the year. Harvesters should note that all gear in these grids must be hauled and removed immediately, resetting of gear is not permitted.

Grid quandrant V 37 is defined as the area bounded by the following coordinates:

45° 50′ North, 48° 30′ West;

45° 40′ North, 48° 30′ West;

45° 40′ North, 48° 20′ West;

45° 50′ North, 48° 20′ West;

45° 50′ North, 48° 30′ West;

Grid quandrant V 38 is defined as the area bounded by the following coordinates:

45° 50′ North, 48° 20′ West;

45° 40′ North, 48° 20′ West;

45° 40′ North, 48° 10′ West;

45° 50′ North, 48° 10′ West;

45° 50′ North, 48° 20′ West;

Grid quandrant W 37 is defined as the area bounded by the following coordinates:

45° 40′ North, 48° 30′ West;

45° 30′ North, 48° 30′ West;

45° 30′ North, 48° 20′ West;

45° 40′ North, 48° 20′ West;

45° 40′ North, 48° 30′ West;

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region, gives notice that Variation Order 2025-128 has been revoked and Variation Order 2025-129 will come into force on July 15, 2025.
